   I    INTRODUCTION|    
       The Town & country Planning Department, Punjab is a state level department which is engaged in physical planning of urban centers and rural areas in the State. For this purpose, the department prepares schemes and projects of different agencies so as to create better environment and provide planned and developed sites to the people for residential, commercial, industrial purposes etc.

II     ACTIVITIES & AREAS OF OPERATION OF T & CP DEPTT 

The main activities & areas of operation of Town & Country Planning Deptt. are as follows:                

i)   Formulation of Regional & Urban Development Strategy.

ii)   Preparation of Regional  Plans & Master Plans under the Pb.          Regional & Town Planning & Development Act   & Rules, 1995 for the town & cities for their orderly growth & development.

iii)  Surveying & mapping or Regional Planning Areas & cities & towns including aerial photography by remote sensing techniques.

iv)  Planning of residential urban estates and commercial schemes of Punjab Urban Planning & Development Authority (PUDA).

v)   Scrutiny of colony layout plans under the Punjab Apartment & Property Regulation Act and Rules, 1995 for promoting growth & development in the private sector. 

vi)   Processing of cases in Chandigarh Periphery & Region.

vii)   Preparation of layout plans of New Mandi Townships being developed by Colonization Deptt.

viii)  Preparation of Integrated Block Development Plans of community development blocks in the rural sector & planning of focal villages.  

ix)    Providing technical assistance to the Department of Industries, PSIEC, Punjab Pollution Control Board and the Deptt. of Science, Technology & Environment regarding setting up of Industrial Focal Points, scrutiny from environmental angle of cases involving establishment of industrial units.

x)    Selection of sites of projects of various Govt. departments/ agencies and processing of related cases for consideration of the State Land Acquisition Board.

xi)    Planning of surplus Govt. lands and properties.

xii)    Coordination of Planning of cantonments in cities & towns.

xiii)    Preparation of Development Schemes of Improvement Trusts.

xiv)    Preparation of regulatory Town Planning Schemes of Municipal Corporations and other urban local bodies.

xv)     Preparation of traffic improvement schemes of urban local bodies.

xvi)     Preparation of plans and project reports under the centrally-sponsored scheme for integrated development of Small & Medium Towns (IDSMT).

xvii)   Planning of municipal lands & properties.    

xviii)    Providing technical support to the district administration & Govt. on matters relating to planning and execution of schemes & projects.

xix)    Advice on building applications referred to by the municipal authorities, scrutiny of cases relating to siting of brick kilns, petrol pumps and cinema houses.      

xx)    Providing technical advice for location & siting of fuel filling stations.
